It's Facebook! It Ain't Intramurals!

I learned of Colorado University football coach Dan Hawkins' (aka The Hawk) facebook page about 10 days ago. Being a The Hawk fan since his gadgetry at Boise State and epic "go play intramurals, brotha" rant at CU, I quickly logged on and added The Hawk as a friend.

Since I am also facebook friends with Pete Carroll, I thought I had an "in." Fight on.

Anyway, I waited and waited. I guess being the head coach of a DIVISION I FOOTBALL!! team in THE BIG XII!! occupies a great deal of time. I began losing hope. Didn't The Hawk know I respected his style (and his blog)?

Late Friday night I received an email. The Hawk confirmed me as a friend!

Yay! Go Hawk!

The Hawk Talks Recruiting

Recruitniks may have noticed that 5-star, top RB recruit Darrell Scott signed yesterday with Colorado University (signing day for everyone except Terrelle Pryor and Kevin Hart)? Looks like TINWA fav The Hawk is pulling some solid talent up in Boulder. Here's a blurb on The Hawk's recruiting:

Give credit to Colorado coach Dan Hawkins, who is a great coach and recruiter.

Hawk sent me [the writer] a text last night that summed up the "higher plane" he thinks and works on, regarding recruiting:

"The master archer seeks not the target, rather to become the bow."
The Hawk is cool. I hope to make it to Folsom Field one of these years. But it's tough with Penn State, Air Force and K-State all in the mix. After all, there are only 6-8 homes games per year in DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL!!!

It ain't intramurals!

Gundy, Reid and Carlson

By now, everyone should be aware of Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy's press conference meltdown following OSU's 49-45 win over Texas Tech (arrrgh) Saturday. Gundy didn't take too kindly to Jenni Carlson's column detailing former OSU starting quarterback (and alleged mama's boy) Bobby Reid's demotion:

I've been pondering the Gundy/Reid/Carlson fiasco. As a former athlete and English major, I was rather conflicted. Turns out, all my thinking was in vain, because one of my favorite coaches - Colorado University head football coach Dan Hawkins - succinctly summarizes my thoughts on the issue:

It's Division-I football!! It's the Big 12!!

I love, love, love that soundbite (taken from a presser last season). It never gets old. In fact, when I get home from work, I am going to listen to it about 13 times in a row. I wish I could have played for Coach Hawkins.

I'm not trying to defend Carlson's column - she's a poor writer - but I've seen worse written about D-I college football players. Certainly Gundy, Reid and Reid's mom need to develop thicker skins. Right, Anthony Morelli?
