eNnnnnn B C

The peacock net is prepping for a big night. Parks & Recreation and Southland bow.

P&I tries to replicate The Office magic. "Troubled." Needs to "find its footing." Majority of characters unlikable?

I'm not getting my hopes up.

Southland replaces ER. Heavily promoted. A "clunky" cop drama.

How awesome is Training Day!? Still. Anyway... I told LRK that I highly doubt Southland will give NBC 15 years like its predeccesor. Hopefully, it doesn't give it one. I'm beyond sick of hearing "Orange Sky."

Fortunately, two, new episodes of The Office and a new 30 Rock are sandwiched around Parks to compensate for any discomfort provided by the P&I pilot.

All Sherlock Holmes

WGAL recently reported on a vandal tagging some residences in Susquehanna Township with some interesting language. Here's some pics:

After studying the evidence, and being the Cartoon Planet aficionado that I am, I'm pretty sure I know who is behind these shenanigans...

Zorak.

SJ Time!

I am not a fan of "Dancing with the Stars." Sorry, it is cheesy, boring, corny, too drawn out and the "stars" are rarely stars. And I don't care about ballroom dancing.

Still, LRK usually enjoys watching it, and I guess the new season is about to start up. Maybe hoping to generate a fleck of enthusiasm for the show on my end, she emailed me, "Look who is going to be on Dancing with the Stars," and included this link.

No doubt Shawn Johnson is a quality "get" for "DwtS." I will certainly amuse myself doing my "bad Shawn" impression when that plucky sparkplug of Americana competes. But the show will still stink.

Hope Solo e Bom

Watching tv with BAH and LRK over the weekend and caught the Dodge commercial featuring the US Women's soccer team.

The ladies commandeer two Dodge Journeys and trek down to Rio de Janeiro for a rematch with Brazil? What - the Olympics did not count??

Funny how the one vehicle was watching the infamous Brazil 4-0 2008 World Cup white-washing. The girl quickly clicks off the tv.

Hope Solo was along for the ride. Wonder if she smiles a little inside every time she sees highlights of that match? Considering she was the primary reason the US won the August rematch with Brazil for Olympic gold, she must feel a little vindication.

Borrowers Buzzkill

The Baby Borrowers season finale aired last night. Spoiler alert - but all five couples ended up splitting up! What the heck, NBC?! I guess it was expected the experiment might cause a few couples to call it quits (one pair split during the show), but 5-for-5 in break-ups was a total buzzkill.

Overall, the series was very entertaining. I just wish one of those kids would have made it.

+ Comcast is dangling a free Wii to anyone who will ground into their "Triple Play" package. Puns! I would give up my Wii for the ability to experience the wonderment of Verizon FiOS TV... and dump Comcast.

+ BAH emailed me a college football helmet ID quiz. Basically, you get this Excel sheet with 50 college football helmets and you must name the team. I scored 50/50. I didn't find it very hard, but it was fun and the graphics were cool. Then again, I've always been fascinated with college football unis and spent many a Saturday watching College Gameday, college football all day and staying up for the west coast games latenight. LRK scored a respectable 34/50.

Local Olympians - Who's Now

Summer Olympics, Beijing, 8.8.08, NBC family of networks. There's that.

Local NBC affiliate WGAL 8 is providing an assist to NBC Uni's Olympic hyping by running a weekly feature detailing a local person/athlete connected to the the Beijing Games or the Olympics, in general. Thus far, I've seen a segment on a photographer and a few segments on judges or volunteers (old people). Oh, and a 50m three position rifle girl. That's fine and relatively interesting, but who's now, WGAL?!?

I'll tell you who's now... locally:
  • Kim Glass, US Women's Volleyball team outside hitter. Ms. Glass, a Conestoga Valley grad, crushed records at the University of Arizona where she was a 3-time All-American. Granted, she hasn't officially been named to the US team yet, but I think she's got a spot.

  • Hyleas Fountain, heptathlete. Ms. Fountain, who has a pretty cool name, is a Central Dauphin East grad and wound up at the University of Georgia via Barton County Community College. She already earned her spot to compete in Beijing by winning 5 of the 7 heptathlon events at the US Trials while posting a personal best score of 6,667. She's also attempting to qualify for the long jump.
So come August, if you're watching the Olympics, keep your eyes peeled for these two Olympic athletes that WGAL is seemingly ignoring. They're Who's Now!

+ Brenner not seeking re-election! Out in '10. Where does the YC go from here?

As a Response, I Feigned Apathy

Wow... tuning into NBC's Wimbledon coverage this morning - the peacock network is really breaking into the hipster music bag. Their opening segment played to The Ting Tings "Great DJ." Then, leading into the break before heading off to the Serena Williams / Bethany Mattek match, they featured M.I.A.'s "Boyz."

Is the Freelance Hellraiser coordinating music for NBC's Wimbledon coverage?

+ It's Over, Lady! The NYT's wonderful Maureen Dowd succinctly sums up her day in Unity, NH by offering a glimpse into the idiocy of a few hardcore HRC loyalists, name-dropping former Duke baller/current Barry O body man Reggie Love and painting a picture of Bill Clinton's current mindset that made me think of an infant with soiled drawers.

Survey Says... McCain Must Go!

I rolled out some additional functionality with the recent blog makeover, namely the ability to conduct polls. The inaugural TINWA reader poll was a resounding success!

I asked, "Who are you more tired of seeing on TV?"

71% voted John McCain
28% voted Gus, the 2nd most famous groundhog in PA
0% voted Capital BlueCross President & CEO Anita Smith

It's clear TINWA readers are most tired of seeing McCain's old, wrinkly, confused mug on TV.

+ Bad news: "Wipeout" scored some decent ratings Tuesday night. For shame. It will be interesting to see if it can maintain its audience week 2.

MXC >>> Wipeout

Let me start out by bluntly stating "Wipeout" Johns Anderson and Henson can't carry the jocks of MXC's Kenny Blankenship and Vic Romano. Brutal! Anderson is just ill-suited for this entertainment/reality game show, and what happened to the Henson of "Talk Soup" fame? He's lost a lot of speed off his fastball. The sanitized, Disney-tized "Wipeout" is a cluster-eff of a show that would be best served by simply running the reaction shots of EA-like Jill Wagner the entire ep.

One more thing - don't get eliminated!

+ By the by, Eddie Bauer is running a sweet sale presently. I stopped by yesterday morning to pick up some new, more dome-complimentary shades and saw EB was shilling their polos for $14.99. Nice! I picked up a chocolate polo and plan on heading back with LRK to see what else they have to offer.

+ Also, I was digging the song in the new-ish Grand Theft Auto 4 spot. You know, the one where the background keeps changing while the guy is walking, going about his business. So I researched, and found out the song is "Get Innocuous" by LCD Soundsystem... and, in reality, is about 7 minutes and 20 seconds in length. Tedious. So, I'm satisfied with just hearing the portion in the GTA 4 spot.
