Volquez Power

Hey, Josh Hamilton is sure getting off to a good start in Texas. J.J. Putz - ha! Like Walla Walla, Keokuk, Cucamonga and Seattle, J.J. Putz always makes me laugh.

...Seattle.

Much anticipation regarding the scheduled Sunday lift-off of Edison Volquez. Vs. les Sillies? Haha - can't wait. Might have to go out and procure a #36 Volquez Reds jersey to display a la honeymoon!

Nice try, Penn State - Harrisburg. Go Jays!

The AFA released its 2008 football schedule yesterday. Primo match-ups include:

Sept. 20 v. Utah
Nov. 8 v. Colorado State
Nov. 15 v. BYU

Note: All times are Mountain time zone.

Tough sledding with tbd Penn State and K-State games on the TINWA docket. Mr. H wants to hit a PSU (v. Oregon State? IU? MSU?) game this fall. I would certainly be open to another trip to Colorado Springs.

I'd Rather be a Blue Jay Than a Keelhauler

Via BAH, the top 10 obscure college nicknames is a good, interesting read that doesn't just gloss over the wacky nickname and leave it at that. There's some backstory.

Both BAH and I were surprised that Wichita State did not make the cut. Certainly if Cobbers is listed, then Shockers deserves consideration. Plus, they have a cool mascot, and well... you know... the other thing.

That's it?! That's the list?! WSU mascot is shocked.

Sidenote: I have experience with one of the schools on the list. Each year while I was ballin' at Elizabethtown, we played the #7 obscurely-nicknamed Rowan University Profs. They were consistently good with solid hitting. The Profs' colors were brown and yellow, like Wichita State. Or the old, superior San Diego Padres unis.

Bonus: My school's nickname: Blue Jays. So... there you go.

Go Jays!

A Grand Don't Come For Free

Congrats, dap and props to my alumni on our 1,000 win on the diamond. My Blue Jays swept rival Albright in a double-header Saturday, and became the first Elizabethtown College athletics team to reach 1,000 victories. I am proud and honored to say I was a major part of 83 of those wins ('95-'98), including a win over D-I VMI and a MAC Championship in '97.

I will always hold the fondest memories of my time at Elizabethtown, specifically my involvement in Blue Jay Baseball. I met a lot of great people, played a lot of great ball and really developed as a player, the caf, the epic Baseball Christmas Parties, the MAC Championship run...just every day. It was really great.
