Gundy, Reid and Carlson

By now, everyone should be aware of Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy's press conference meltdown following OSU's 49-45 win over Texas Tech (arrrgh) Saturday. Gundy didn't take too kindly to Jenni Carlson's column detailing former OSU starting quarterback (and alleged mama's boy) Bobby Reid's demotion:

I've been pondering the Gundy/Reid/Carlson fiasco. As a former athlete and English major, I was rather conflicted. Turns out, all my thinking was in vain, because one of my favorite coaches - Colorado University head football coach Dan Hawkins - succinctly summarizes my thoughts on the issue:

It's Division-I football!! It's the Big 12!!

I love, love, love that soundbite (taken from a presser last season). It never gets old. In fact, when I get home from work, I am going to listen to it about 13 times in a row. I wish I could have played for Coach Hawkins.

I'm not trying to defend Carlson's column - she's a poor writer - but I've seen worse written about D-I college football players. Certainly Gundy, Reid and Reid's mom need to develop thicker skins. Right, Anthony Morelli?
