As special and beautiful as Friday was, Saturday was as fun-filled. LRH and I visited the Air Force Academy, and caught the Air Force / San Diego State game. The Academy was really cool; in addition to the game, we visited the Visitor's Center and the Cadet Chapel. The Cadet Chapel was easily the coolest church ever. Wow. The game was awesome - AFA won in a blowout with that clutch spread option - but the pregame was even more awesome! Unreal! I'll save the rest for pictures. Oh yeah, we ate at Chili's for dinner. It's the new golf course. Then we watched Texas Tech beat Oklahoma and LRH and I chatted with Mr. H on the phone.
You know I can't go on a trip without photo-ing a blue jay-like character. We encountered this guy on our way to the Cadet Chapel. I later learned dude was a magpie, but it was close enough for me. Go Jays!
This masterpiece is the AFA Cadet Chapel. Wow.
It was unreal inside the Cadet Chapel. Photos simply do not do it justice.
You are looking live at Falcon Stadium. Parking was free! What a novel concept.
The cadets marched onto the field by squadron. Once they were all on the field, they did something like this.
Then a plane flew over and six parachuters jumped. The jumper pictured was the last of the six, and the only one to land exactly on the 50 yard-line (the goal). Also, dude pictured had over 4,000 jumps to his name. Impressive!
Preceding this guy, two F-16s did a flyover. That was nice. I was hoping for a B-2 next, but we got the B-1. It was surreal. And here it is! (LRH and I had a different vantage point - we were not with the cadets). He approached the stadium, seemingly hovering in the air. Then flew over just above the stadium, and produced a rumbling that I will never forget. I must have said "wow" about 15 times. I've never experienced anything like it. A lot of scribes say Penn State is the best pregame, but they've obviously never been to the AFA. That pregame is second to none!
Nice in-game shot of AFA's domination.
I can't wait to go back for another one!
