I Hate United

I should be in Kansas City by now. Instead, thanks to [REDACTED], I am sitting in my apt semi-fuming and watching College Gameday. I left the LC at 3:00 AM today to head down to BWI for a 6:00 AM departure. The drive went well, despite the monsoon-like conditions, and I arrived at BWI at 4:30 AM. There was a slight line at security, with TSA only operating one checkpoint, but I breezed through and was at my gate by 5:00 AM. Fine.

Around 5:30 AM, [REDACTED] got on the horn, and said boarding would begin in about 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, [REDACTED] got on the horn again, saying they were checking a minor maintenance issue, and boarding would begin in another 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, they were still checking said "minor" issue, and they would try again in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later, it was them again, saying they were still checking and it would be another 10 minutes. Picture me growing increasingly frustrated with each announcement of a delay. I experienced the [REDACTED] rodeo before. Plus, I had a connecting flight in Chicago to KC that left at 8:05 AM (Central time).

Then the kicker: the plane's weather radar system was not working, and they had to order parts from another airport - the plane would be grounded for the foreseeable future. Serenity now!

[REDACTED], being the shoddy airline it is, had pretty much one person working the gate trying to reroute about 50-60 passengers. I waited in line from 6:00 AM - 8:30 AM with tiny expectations that I would arrive in KC and make it it to Kansas, and thusly the K-State game later today. Low expectations pay off, as I was told I could get on a flight to KC via Denver that would arrive around 3:30 PM. Unacceptable! Then, I was told that the delayed flight could take off at 9:00 AM, and that I would arrive in KC around 2:00. Unacceptable (plus, I checked [REDACTED].com a few minutes ago, and the flight still has not taken off)! So I took out some frustrations on the gate worker and went to ticketing to refund my ticket. Then I left BWI. I hate United.
