Downtown in the 'Burbs

Via my main man, Brett - whose forced The Rose listenership finally paid off, today I learned that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver "Downtown" Reggie Brown will be appearing at the Fruitville Pike PNC Bank grand opening this Saturday from 12-2 PM. Being a PNC Bank customer, I was thrilled to learn of another branch opening in the greater LC area...and that the 'Birds #1 wide receiver (sort of by default) would be gracing the area with his presence this weekend. I told Brett I would be there, and do my best to do him a solid by asking Reggie if he's heard from Todd Pinkston lately. I also said I would tell ol' #86 to clean up his MySpace page. C'mon, that's sort of a hot mess.

So after work, I drove by and scoped out the scene. The new PNC branch occupies the corner of a rather nice stand-alone strip, right before the Wal-Mart/Five Below/Maggie Moo's complex. Also part of the PNC strip is a Fed Ex, Starbucks and soon-to-be a Five Guys Burger and Fries. Old Man Kirby may want to check out the Lancaster Five Guys once it opens up! Anyway, if Reggie draws the typical pro-Eagle crowd in Lancaster County, traffic and parking will be an adventure. But I'm game. I want to see ol' Reggie and snap a pic with my celly. Even if "Downtown" will be in the suburbs (credit Brett). Anyone want to pony up for a USB cord compatible with my White Chocolate?

Don't worry about going into the bank, wait by his car and then you can get a really nice picture with him when he leaves. But then again, maybe that's why you were scoping out the area? Nice.

Ah yes, the classic Bender approach!

I was just trying to get a general lay of the land. I have no idea where they're going to be able to park Reggie's ride. The strip, while nice and clean, is also on the narrow side and doesn't provide a lot of parking or empty space in general. I'm not worried, though.

Did you go? How was it?

Here's my recap I wrote to Brett:

Got to the PNC around 1:00-ish. It took about 45 minutes to go through the line and get to the Downtown area. He was nice and congenial with everyone I saw him meet. He must like interacting with the public.

I tried a different tact - I felt he hears all the time from Eagles
fans - so I said I was a Georgia Bullldogs fan (which I sort of am).
He thought that was cool. Then we got our picture taken. Then he
signed a little PNC nerf football. As he was signing, I asked him if
he knew who the Eagles were going to take in the draft (the draft was
on the tv there). He looked up and said he didn't know. Then I said,
"Didn't Andy tell you?" And he got a funny look on his face and said
"No" and then smiled. I think he thought how I said it was funny. Then I told him to have a good year, it was nice meeting him and shook his hand.

It was pretty cool. He really didn't look 6' 1". I think that's what the Eagles list him at. Girth-wise he was about your or my size. He was a really nice guy, though, and good with kids.

Plus, I got a nifty "meet me on the Pike" PNC Bank shirt. Overall, it was an hour well spent.

I snapped a few pics on my phone, but I don't have a means to get them on my cpu. It's okay really, because in the pic of me and him, I look really bad, anyway.
