Movie Commentary: Good Night, and Good Luck

Good Night, and Good Luck occupied a late night last Saturday and played well in keeping me focused, attentive and awake. GN&GL details how Edward R. Murrow and his producer, Fred Friendly, took down Sen. Joseph McCarthy during the height of McCarthyism.

David Strathairn (who?) plays Murrow and does a wonderful job. The other players play their part and do it well, too. And actual footage of McCarthy is intercut into the film.

I really enjoyed this film and its execution. Of course, you can (and I did) relate it to today. Back then, McCarthy distorted views of dissent as Communist sympathizers. Today, views of dissent are twisted to being "unpatriotic" or "unAmerican".

Bravo to Good Night, and Good Luck! It is a well-acted and detailed depiction of Murrow and Co.'s fight against McCarthyism, and conveys a solid message for the present day.

I'm assuming the Strathairn fella is the guy on the poster? If so, I think he looks like the pitcher in Eight Men Out. If he's the same guy, "we will not walk in fear of one another", but we will get a pretty good pitch to hit.

Yes, Strathairn was in Eight Men Out, as Eddie Cicotte.

Good call.
