By the time I got to Arizona (PE reset) Friday with LRK, it was hot. We met BAH at the airport and he provided the $2 tour of the PHX and Tempe area. We cruised by Chase Field, America West Arena, Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe Town Lake and the PHX metro area's light rail system - scheduled to launch in December.
BAH had a company softball game that evening. He and his company were cool enough to let me position-share. I went 1-for-1 and with a put out during an inning at first base. The company team won, so that was cool. Did I mention it was hot? We cooled off at the apartment complex pool and then took a soak in the hot tub.
Saturday we all woke up and hit Dave & Busters for lunch and games. Warning - the Gene Machine is a total rip-off! Afterwords, we walked around Tempe Marketplace a bit before BAH and I headed to Sun Devil Stadium and LRK and LDH went to the spa.
We headed to Mill Street where I purchased an ASU shirt. The walk downtown was interesting because Georgia traveled very well and they were not shy about their confidence in their team's ability to throttle Arizona State - and telling ASU fans about it.
We arrived at Sun Devil Stadium to take refuge in the shade and catch some pregame. Our seats were great, and in a section underneath the press box so we were in the shade the entire game. The ASU pregame did not feature a B-1 like AFA, but it was definitely cool - one of the cooler pregames I've experienced. The entrance video ASU runs before the team runs out on the field is beyond clutch.
The game was entertaining, although ASU never really threatened Georgia. The Bulldogs did not overly impress us - they were rather sloppy on offense - but they had too much speed for Arizona State. I wish I had the camera out when Knowshon superman'ed dat ho:
It was also cool seeing Amare Stoudemire at the game and him giving the pitchfork hand sign. Great, fun experience.
Sunday we bummed around the apartment and watched football before heading to the airport for our flight back east. Watching football on the west coast is nice.
Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves. Although our trip was brief, it was a lot of fun and BAH/LDH were excellent, informative hosts. I'd definitely like to catch another Arizona State game and explore the area some more. It's hot out there!
