Why do people have to make things so hard*? A few months ago, the Seattle Sonics decided to bolt the Pacific Northwest and relocate to Oklahoma City. As a gesture of goodwill, they decided to leave the Sonics name to the city of Seattle. Now OKC is trying to figure out what to name their franchise, bandying around weak names like Thunder, Barons, Energy and Wind.C'mon, T. Boone Pickens does not own this franchise!
How about Sonics?! The Sonics name relates to Oklahoma City far more than it ever did Seattle. The Sonic Drive-In chain originated in Oklahoma. Sonic's headquarters are located at 300 Johnny Bench Drive in... Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City Sonics has a nice ring to it. Plus, we can get some synergy and cross-promotions going between the team and Sonic.
Who wouldn't want to get their grub on to a breakfast burrito and tots with a cherry limeade while watching professional basketball?
