Bet Your Bottom Dollar

I do not bet on sports. Check that - I did win an imaginary $50 from my friend BW two weeks ago when Cincinnati beat St. Louis. Fantasy sports is my tool to make sports that much more interesting. Plus, I am too unmotivated and suspicious to find some degenerate bookie or set up an account and place a wager online. I encourage other people to bet, though, and I enjoy breaking games down.

Anyway, every once in a great while, I get a feeling about a game. A game I feel so strongly concerning, like, such as, the Penn State / Michigan game, that I would wager big bucks (no whammy) for real. According to BW, Penn State is giving three (-3) and the game has an over/under of 46. I find those numbers tantalizing in favor of Michigan and the under. Here's why:

  • Michigan's win last week, albeit over hapless Notre Dame, gave them some confidence.
  • Michigan should be confident against PSU - they've won eight consecutive times.
  • Lloyd Carr seemingly owns Joe Paterno.
  • The game is in Ann Arbor.
  • Paterno historically keeps things conservative for big games, especially when PSU is on the road. Penn State's best chance to win is if they spread out Michigan (like Appalachian State and Oregon were successful in doing). I don't see that happening.
  • Anothony Morelli is no Armante Edwards or Dennis Dixon. Fonza-Morelli has zero mobility.
  • Morelli has come up small the first three games of his senior season. I just have a feeling, if given the opportuinty, Morelli will spit the bit in this, the defining game of his Penn State career.
  • Russell Crowe is boys with Lloyd Carr and cheers for Michigan.

"Yinz PSU fans will be disappointed by my inept play Saturday."

Want to know the one valid reason PSU might win (besides their defense and Michigan starting an in-over-his-head freshman quarterback):

  • I will be at a wedding and unable to watch the game live.
I see a stereotypical Big Ten trudging battle (punt-fest). Michigan 20-17, winning outright and under the under.

+ Seems an inordinate amount of co-workers are wearing black today. Guess they forgot the Jena 6 march was yesterday.

Not me, though. I'm wearing powder blue. Like the blue in the Eagles wretched throwback unis they'll be sporting Sunday. Only my powder blue is without the shiny and the yellow.

Btw, I also like Detroit on Sunday.

Jesus is Kitna's homeboy.

Plus, the Eagles can stop the run now. Big deal. All Detroit does is wing the ball around the field, all fun-n-gun-like.

It might get ugly.

At least Donovan should be able to have some success against the Lions meek d. ...Hopefully.

I think the Eagles D, strong through the first two games, will be the weak link Sunday. Injuries and Considine in the secondary are killers. Give Quinton a chance!
