FFL: Poker for Picks Draft Redux
Brett Blah Blah Blog has a quality recap over at his site (even though he gives yours truly no credit whatsoever for my "Puff the Magic WR" Randy Moss blast). [Update: It's all good now] So to return the favor, I'm going to totally bite his draft recap post style.
7:02 - After some "user error," I finally enter the draft room. Nice setup by ESPN. A definite upgrade over last year's Yahoo! room.
7:30 - Listening to my head over my heart, I select Shaun Alexander #2 overall (over the Priest, holmes).
7:31 - PMcJ drafts Randy Moss #3, prompting my "Puff the Magic WR" chat blast.
7:38 - AWOL Paul drafts Ben Roethlisberger #9 overall. Curious.
7:41 - Even though he's a Cowboy, I quickly snatch up Julius Jones with my 3rd round pick.
7:43 - AWOL Paul finally arrives. His first three picks: a QBing triumverate of Big Ben, Carson Palmer and Jake Delhomme. Very ouch.
7:57 - Late 5th-early 6th round RB rush features Bennett, Barlow and Arrington. Who hit the home run? My Mr. Sparkle squad with Arrington, natch.
8:00 - Ron Mexico sighting! Brett bites the fantasy bullet and takes Vick.
8:15 - Josh selects the Jets D. I had my eye on them. Damn!
8:17 - I draft Vikings TE Jermaine Wiggins. Many wonder, "Who is this guy?" Watch your NFL Network, people!
8:28 - My system freezes and I wind up taking David Carr instead of Joey Harrington. Blessing in disguise?
8:33 - I start campaigning for Ryan Moats.
8:50 - I max out on RBs and WRs...ugh...time to start taking kickers and a backup D.
8:58 - Craniumz steal Seahawks TE Itili Mulu from Travis...maybe they can work out a trade. Mulu belongs on the Floodgates.
8:49 - 9:05 - Rounds 14-18 elapse. I don't care about any of these players.
9:06 - Ken selects Mr. Irrelevant...the NY Giants D.
And there you have it. Pretty smooth. An event that could have taken 6 hours was completed in a little over 90 minutes. Teamwork. Props to Brett for organizing this whole affair and for switching to ESPN. I'm quite satisfied with the 2005 Mr. Sparkle squad, but we'll have to see. As Herm Edwards eloquently shouted, "Something something something to win the games!"
Picks I'm especially pleased with:
1. Shaun Alexander (I guess)
2. Dante Culpepper - I couldn't pass him up
3. Julius Jones - a steal in round 3 IMO
5. Antonio Gates - I hope he gets that contract resolved, though
6. J.J. Arrington - I'm expecting big things from this rook
8. Mushin Muhammed - #1 fantasy WR in '04 (even though he's now on the Bears)
16. Mike Nugent - ice in his kicking veins
